2016 Scholarships Offered

For the eleventh year in a row, OHHA will offer college/university entrance scholarships to children of active OHHA members.  For 2016 one scholarship will be at the university level in the amount of $2,500, and two will be at the college level in the amount of $1,500 each.  Money will be distributed upon proof of registration at an Ontario college or university.

Application deadline is December 7, 2016.

To qualify, submit a completed application form (available here or by contacting the OHHA office) by mail on or before the due date to:

2015 Scholarship Winners

The Ontario Harness Horse Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2015 OHHA scholarships.  For the tenth year in a row, OHHA is awarding scholarships to children of active, participating OHHA members who have entered their first year of full-time undergraduate studies leading to a first post-secondary certificate or diploma.

This year’s recipient of the $2,500 university scholarship is Cherise Parish (Chesley),  Cherise Parish who is enrolled in the Kinesiology Program at Western University in London.

Recipients of the $1,500 college scholarships are Sandee Hardy (Melbourne), Sandee Hardy who is pursuing an Associate Diploma in Agriculture at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus and Courtney Sloan (Harley), DEC 7 COURTNEY SLOAN who attends Mohawk College’s Child and Youth Worker Program.

One of the criteria to be awarded a scholarship is proven academic achievement and these three candidates realized outstanding results during their secondary education.

The Ontario Harness Horse Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014 OHHA scholarships.  For the ninth year in a row, OHHA is awarding scholarships to children of active, participating OHHA members who have entered their first year of full-time undergraduate studies leading to a first post-secondary certificate or diploma.

This year’s recipient of the $2,500 university scholarship is Daniel Moffat (Dresden) Daniel Moffat who is pursuing a B.Sc.N. (Honours) Degree in Nursing at the University of Windsor.

Recipients of the $1,500 college scholarships are Joshua Core (Sarnia) Josh Core who was admitted to the Paramedic Program at Lambton College in Sarnia and Richard Moffat (London) Richard Moffat who is attending the General Arts and Science Program at Fanshawe College in London.

One of the criteria to be awarded a scholarship is proven academic achievement and these three candidates realized outstanding results during their secondary education.

The Ontario Harness Horse Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 OHHA scholarships.  For the eighth year in a row, OHHA is awarding scholarships to children of active, participating OHHA members who have entered their first year of full-time undergraduate studies leading to a first post-secondary certificate or diploma.

This year’s winner of the $2,500 university scholarship is Hannah    

   Beckett (Lynden), who is pursuin a double-major in Legal Studies and Political Science, with a minor in Knowledge Integration, at the University of Waterloo (Honours Arts).

Winners of the $1,500 college scholarships are Madison Durbano

          (Barrie), who was admitted to the Professional Sound & Business/Studio Production program at the Metalworks Institute in Mississauga and

Michael Sloan    (Harley), who is attending the Police Foundations Program at Algonquin College in Ottawa.

One of the criteria to be awarded a scholarship is proven academic achievement and these three candidates realized outstanding results during their secondary education.

2012 Scholarship Winners

The Ontario Harness Horse Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 OHHA scholarships.  For the seventh year in a row, OHHA is awarding scholarships to children of active, participating OHHA members who are entering their first year of full-time undergraduate studies leading to a first post-secondary certificate or diploma.

This year’s winner of the $2,500 university scholarship is Rachel McNeill (Brantford), who has been admitted to the Bachelor of Social Work program at Ryerson University in Toronto.

 

Since no applications were received for the $1,500 college scholarship, the committee felt it prudent to award one half of this bursary amount to Nicole Durbridge who will enter the University of Guelph’s Bachelor of Science, Honours Major Animal Biology program.  The other half has been awarded to Katherine Tremblay who was admitted to the Bachelor of Science (Honours) program at Queen’s University in Toronto.

OHHA Scholarship Program

The Ontario Harness Horse Association (OHHA) will offer two college/university entrance scholarships to children of active OHHA members. One scholarship will be at the university level in the amount of $2,500, and one at the college level in the amount of $1,500.  Money will be distributed upon proof of registration at an Ontario college or university.

The requirements for all applicants are:

  • must be the child of an active participating OHHA member
  • must be entering his/her first year of full time undergraduate studies leading to a first post-secondary certificate or diploma
  • must be enrolling in an Ontario program that is at least eight months in duration leading to an undergraduate degree, certificate or diploma.

Selection Criteria

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Important Dates

  • July 31, 2012- Application deadline – postmarked
  • September 1, 2012 – Notification by mail/e-mail to all entrance award recipients
